Pinterest has long been taken over by women. Recipes, jewelry, home décor, and anything with glitter have graced the boards of over 48 million users. Business owners, brands, and online sellers have been searching high and low for a way to market to men on pinterest – but do they even use it? Enter manteresting.com. A man’s version of pinning, called Manteresting. Instead of pinning items to a board – users are nailing and bumping images to their workbench.

Marketing to men may be easier now that you can have their full attention. With a tag line like: “Interesting. Man. Things.”, the question is, what are they “nailing”? From a first glance, here are most popular subjects:

  • Bacon: anything revolving about how much they love bacon
  • Models / Actresses: pretty faces, round bottoms, and lots of breasts
  • Tree Houses: for adults
  • Comedic Quotes: about beer, or dogs
  • Movies: Star Wars, the Dark Knight, Chuck Norris, Liam Neeson
  • Use those subjects to create your own boards. Then create some promotions, here are some examples by seller type:
  • Kitchen goods: Post recipes with bacon. Win a “baconator” skillet.
  • Media sellers: Nail images from any Chuck Noris or Liam Neeson movie. Win a signed movie poster.
  • DIY: Build your own adult tree house, or shed. Win a full set of tools.
  • The promotion options are endless and the prizes can be as big or as small as you can afford. To create a large audience make sure, with each entry nailed, users are following you. Marketing to men just got a little easier, as long as you embrace Manteresting.

    Up until recently, the online social community, Pinterest, has only granted personal accounts on their website, banning commercially-driven accounts that promote business and brand. Pinterest is now open for businesses and allowing commercial websites and companies to legally join the site to help with boosting their success and showcasing products, new content and even services that they have available to offer and provide.

    What is Pinterest?
    Pinterest is a free online social networking community that allows members to post and share various links, photos and websites with their followers and to save for their own future references as well. By creating various virtual "pinboards", users can easily store recipes, DIY projects and even tips on saving money all depending on their own interests and reasons for becoming a member of Pinterest.

    Who Uses Pinterest?
    Pinterest is used by everyone ranging from stay at home parents who enjoy bookmarking and saving recipes to frugal and savvy members who prefer stockpiling tax tips and how to save money guides. Pinterest is also useful for prkmoting your listings or stores. You can drive traffic to your individual items to help drive sales.

    How Does Pinterest Help Businesses?
    Pinterest allows businesses and websites alike to post photos and links to specific content or even to various products and services that are currently being offered through the company itself. With Pinterest, business owners can also add keywords and tags to each item that is virtually "pinned" to help other members of Pinterest locate what has been uploaded and shared. The more virtual "pins" a post receives on Pinterest, the more popular it becomes and the more visibility it receives site wide with the members of the community. Using Pinterest saves money and time when trying to reach a new audience or even when looking to expand your current one.

    People often ask me if all I do is sell on eBay. No. I have many other income streams. eBay is just one of them. The key to making money with multiple streams of income is persistence, time, and commitment. For example, here is my history on eHow - an article writing site.

    I started writing for eHow back in June 2007. I didn't even know the site paid its writers. I was just writing articles about how to do stuff on eBay. In January of 2008, money started showing up in my Paypal account. I have submitted 316 articles to eHow since September 2007. The last article I submitted was in February 2010. (I stopped submitting articles when the system changed and it became more time consuming to write there.) Click here to see my profile. My articles have had over 1 million views in the last 3 years and I am now making about $35 a day and haven't submitted anything in over 8 months. I now make enough money from this income stream to pay my mortgage.

    Here are screen shots of how my earnings have grown over 3 years:

    2008

    2009

    2010

    Why am I telling you this? BECAUSE ANYONE CAN DO IT. All you have to do is start and make a commitment to keep building these income streams from now on. It only takes minutes a day. But you have to do it every day.

    eHow is only one of my streams of income. In addition to eHow and eBay I make money from these things:

    Selling books on Amazon
    Google Ads on my blogs
    Affiliate marketing
    Writing for the Examiner

    It just takes discipline, commitment, and the understanding that rewards will come later - delayed gratification. Here are some tips on where and how to get started building passive income streams.

    Start a blog to promote your eBay store.

    Start a blog about anything you want and monetize it.

    Sign up for Swagbucks.
    (Here are my gift card rewards for this year - so you can see it really works! I have redeemed 28 $50 Amazon gift cards this year so far for a total of $1,400. You can use the gift card balance immediately or let them accumulate. I will be doing all of my Christmas shopping on Amazon this year with money that Swagbucks paid me.)

    Submit articles to Constant Content.

    START NOW - DON'T WAIT. Six months from now you can be seeing income from these sources.

    I earn money online doing many things besides selling on eBay, and I encourage you to do the same. Here is an update on my other internet ventures for the month of November.

    eHow = $506.87
    Examiner = $331.79
    Clickbank = $330.16
    Commission Junction = $260.63
    My own eBooks = $155
    Google Adsense = $130.22
    Swagbucks = $62

    Total: $1,776.67

    1) Ehow. I finally broke the $500 mark on eHow. The key here is to do the keyword research before writing your articles. It is all about quality, not quantity. Click here to see my articles and you will notice that I only submit about 10 a month, and each takes about 15 minutes to write and submit. My earnings were $506 for about 2 and 1/2 hours worth of work in November. Click here to get started on eHow, or if you are already writing for them, how to increase your earnings.

    2) The Examiner. $331 for November. Most of this is sum is from referrals. You can make $50 per referral to this site. Click here for instructions on how.

    3) Clickbank, $324.84. I promote these products in a variety of ways including here on my blog, on Facebook, Twitter, on my eHow articles (in the resources section), and in my groups and forums. Click here to get a free eBook and learn how to get started on Clickbank.

    4) Commission Junction, $260.63. Commission Junction pays you commissions based on leads, clicks, and sales according to what the advertisers pay. It is free to join. Click here to find out more about making money with Commission Junction.

    5) My own eBooks, $155. I write them, you can too. Click here for information on how to write your own eBook to sell online. You can even add it to Amazon's Kindle and reach millions of people. Click here for the steps to get your eBook on Kindle.

    6) Google Adsense, $130. This is on my blog. Get paid by Google for allowing them to place relevant ads on your blog or website. Totally passive income. Click here to learn more about Google AdSense.

    6) Swagbucks. $75 in Starbucks gift cards I sold on eBay for $62 - practically zero effort. Click here to find out how to use Swagbucks.

    So there you go. Just shy of $1,800 earned online, at home, from my chair and couch. Nothing to ship. No customers to worry about. Diversify and try some of these income opportunities. I am living proof that it can be done!
