$1.2 Million for Video Game Collection

When you were growing up, did your parents tell you that playing video games would amount to nothing? This story may just prove them wrong. If you have been considering video games for your next category on Amazon FBA, then keep reading because this may motivate you.


A young man in France has just auctioned off a huge video game collection on eBay. The 32 year old named Andre took the time to collect every game made for 22 different game consoles. This totaled approximately 7000 games for not only the popular Sega console, the various Nintendo systems up to the Gamecube, but even lesser known NEC systems.


This eBay seller actually collected the games just for the challenge of it. Each game in the collection was still factory sealed. Some of them are more than 25 years old.


By now, I am sure you are wondering if Andre’s auction had a winner and how much the winning bid was. The winner, who lives in Canada, offered one million Euros which equals about $1.23 million. Unfortunately, as of July 9th the winner had not paid for the auction. For those of you who dabble in international shipping, I am sure you are wondering just how much the shipping charges will be. It has been estimated that it will cost approximately $1000 to ship the games from France to Canada.


Andre is ready in case the buyer does not pay for the auction. He has plans to either re-list the games on Ebay or list them on a few Japanese auction sites. Will this be the end of Andre’s eBay selling days? Probably not. He says this is just a part of his collection and that he still has thousands of other games he could sell.

eBay Seller Success Story - Megaman

I recently received this eBay seller success story that I would like to share with you:

I have a full-time job and do some picking at garage sales and thrift stores in my free time, mostly as a hobby. Using advice from Suzanne the eBay Selling Coach, I've been able to spot lots of great bargains and maximize my listings. I usually just make a few bucks here and there reselling books, toys, electronics, and art supplies, but I recently stumbled into a big score.


At a local Bay Area, California thrift store I was able to purchase a group of Nintendo GameBoy game cartridges with their original boxes and manuals. I got 6 games for $18 (averaging $3 each). With a little research, I realized that one of them was quite rare and had the potential to auction for $40 or $50 dollars. Boy, was I pleasantly thrilled when the bidding just kept going up beyond my expectations. In the final seconds of the 7-day auction, the bidding topped out a just over $280! Even if I take a total loss on the other games I originally purchased in the group, I made over $260 profit (not including shipping costs and eBay/Paypal fees). Definitely a record for me.


I'm learning that there are a lot of rare video game cartridges and systems out there that collectors will pay top dollar for, particularly if they have their original packaging. Many game companies also made demo and sample games that were never released to the public and can sell for thousands of dollars. Even more common games from older systems can fetch a nice profit when bought in bulk and sold individually.

Make Money Selling Used PC and Video Games on eBay

At home gaming has become very widespread – Wii, Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, and GameCube are all extremely popular. The majority of people who play video games buy new games frequently because they get tired of the ones they have. By selling used games on eBay yourself, you can make more money than you would if you sold them to a game store (like GameStop).

Start by always saving the box for your games. Games bring higher prices when sold in original boxes. It is also important to include instructions and any other papers that were included with the game. Buyers like to know they’re getting a complete product.

Next research how much your game is selling for on eBay. Also consider selling similar games in a lot – such as selling 6 games together that are for a GameCube. Games that are extremely popular (such as Halo) often sell better by themselves. Research completed listings on eBay to determine the best selling method for your particular game.

It’s also very important to sell only working games on eBay. If you buy used games (such as from a yard sale or thrift store), be sure to test them before listing them. A buyer who receives a broken game is likely to leave negative feedback – plus it’s just common courtesy to sell a working product. Buyers will appreciate your honesty.
